    History: Wiki

    Personality:
Killian Jones, or as the world has come to know him, Captain Hook, is driven by revenge. Once, he was driven by love, but after Rumpelstiltskin killed the woman Killian loved, everything he's done has been part of his long term goal of killing the supposedly unkillable Rumpelstiltskin. He's gone to at least two other worlds in pursuit of that goal, and he's trying desperately to find his way to yet another, so he's clearly very determined. He won't let anything stand between him and what he wants.

He hasn't spent the past 300 years brooding over his lost love, however, even if he's desperately trying to find a way to get revenge for her murder. He's got a sense of joy in life, and he throws himself into everything he does with delight and a sense of adventure. He enjoys offering sarcastic commentary on people he doesn't like, or even people he does like. And he's an enormous flirt. He hasn't forgotten his long-dead love, Milah. In fact, he even had her name tattooed on his arm after she died. But he doesn't dwell in the past too often, and he doesn't let her hold him back from future conquests. He can be very charming when he wants to be. He's also smug and not shy about bragging about his achievements. He enjoys living large, and he very much is one to indulge in anything or anyone he wants.

He values courage a lot. He tells Rumpelstiltskin, "A man unwilling to fight for what he wants deserves what he gets" when Rumpelstiltskin comes to beg him for Milah, who he believes Killian had kidnapped. Killian offers Rumpelstiltskin the chance to win his wife back through combat, knowing that one of the things Milah likes least about Rumpelstiltskin is his cowardice. True to form, Rumpelstiltskin refuses to fight, and Killian kicks him off the ship.

He considers himself a gentleman, with people who are on his good side, anyway, though it's unclear if anyone else would consider him one. He can often be playfully crude, and he doesn't see rejection as particularly discouraging. He tells Emma he enjoys a challenge, and that holds true with women as with everything else. Both Milah and Emma, who he's clearly attracted to, are strong, willful women. Exactly his type. It comes down to his appreciation of fighting. He likes and respects people who are willing to do it.

He is a pirate, and thus has shady morals at best. He demands loyalty from his crew, and he gets it, too. They clearly respect him. He's very open about being loyal only to himself, and willing to team up with whoever gets him to Storybrooke for his revenge fastest. He plays both sides in the Enchanted Forest, teaming up first with Cora, until it seems more convenient to work with Emma, then switching back to Cora after Emma chains him to the top of a beanstalk. That being said, it is clear he likes Emma a lot more than he likes Cora, and he rather would have worked with her. He is too pragmatic to let that stop him, though. Emma made it clear that she didn't want to work with him. He doesn't have the luxury of waiting around to prove his affection.

Killian is surprisingly perceptive for a pirate. He reads Emma like an open book, figuring out that she was not raised by her parents by the look in her eyes and knowing immediately that her life has been hard and far too lacking in love. He's just as easy to read to her, of course, and part of that is because he wears his heart on his sleeve and as much as he tries to hide his pain and not talk about Milah or Rumpelstiltskin, his face says it all. That wound may be 300 years old, but it still aches.

His quest for revenge is slowly destroying any morality he may once have had. Though as a pirate, he has no qualms about murder and theft, he didn't kill Rumpelstiltskin when he came to beg for Milah back, and he put Milah before himself, trying to hide her existence from Rumpelstiltskin even though he knew it would probably mean his death. Three hundred years later, that side is deeply buried. When Regina asked him to rip out Cora's heart, he didn't even flinch, though that had been how Rumpelstiltskin had killed Milah. He is much more hardened and selfish, putting his own needs and quest for revenge above everything else.

He is still capable of having feelings, though. It's very clear in how he looks at Emma. He doesn't love her, not yet, and he certainly isn't ready to give up his heart when he hardly knows her, but there was a clear connection. He trusted her, despite her complete lack of trust in him, and he felt honestly betrayed when she left him at the top of the beanstalk. Though he had given her no reason to trust him, he wanted her to. A part of him still wants that part of him back. And he wouldn't have done the same because he really did want to work with her.

Not that it was enough to keep him from ripping out Aurora's heart for Cora. He is still a villain, and he wasn't about to go back and beg for Emma to take him back when he was mad at her and Cora had become the surer bet. A great quote from official OUAT podcast is "He’s a hero trapped in a villain’s body or a villain trapped in a hero’s body." It's still unclear whether he'll end up good or bad. At this point, it's far from too late for him to be redeemed, but it would take a lot of work.

He is actually a fairly decent strategist. He makes back-up plans, and that's part of why he refuses to just pick a side and stick to it. Far better to have someone you can turn to when the other side lets you down. He also kept a bean as back-up in case Emma and co made it through the portal with the compass. He's clever enough to know that Plan A doesn't always work, and to keep Plan B in reserve whenever necessary. Unfortunately, he's come to find that Emma is incredibly distracting, and despite his usual focus, she's good at throwing him off his game and making him hesitate for a crucial second. But that's not enough to make him give up on revenge. For the moment, that's far more important than anything.

Powers/Abilties: No powers. He is a capable fighter and an expert sailor and pirate. Lousy at disguises.

Appearance: He's unfairly attractive with a hook for a hand.
